Solar and battery industry

As a manufacturer of ceramic components, GTS was decisively involved in the development of solar cells from its early beginnings. In the 1990s, the first solar cells were developed together with the company Wacker Chemie and later produced with Bayerwerke. Our products have thus been used in developing numerous further products. The second major issue in energy generation is the storage of the generated electricity. Both in households and in e‑mobility, it should be possible to have long-term intermediate storage of energy with as little loss as possible. One possibility is the efficient battery. Numerous research institutes (Fraunhofer Institutes or Max Planck Institutes) are working on this topic. Here, too, ceramics are used. One research project is, for example, the sodium-based battery. Ceramic crucibles or components are a key component in manufacturing this battery. Only a few materials have the property of thermal and chemical stability. E‑mobility and the associated battery technology are a major aspect of today’s world. The production of electric cars is steadily increasing. Complex components for the battery, engine control or heating are now made of ceramic. Based on its many years’ expertise, GTS is helping to realise new projects.
