Solar and battery indusÂtry
As a manuÂfacÂturer of ceramic compoÂnents, GTS was deciÂsively involved in the develÂopÂment of solar cells from its early beginÂnings. In the 1990s, the first solar cells were develÂoped together with the company Wacker Chemie and later produced with BayerÂwÂerke. Our prodÂucts have thus been used in develÂopÂing numerÂous further prodÂucts. The second major issue in energy generÂaÂtion is the storÂage of the generÂated elecÂtricÂity. Both in houseÂholds and in e‑mobility, it should be possiÂble to have long-term interÂmeÂdiÂate storÂage of energy with as little loss as possiÂble. One possiÂbilÂity is the effiÂcient battery. NumerÂous research instiÂtutes (FraunÂhofer InstiÂtutes or Max Planck InstiÂtutes) are workÂing on this topic. Here, too, ceramÂics are used. One research project is, for examÂple, the sodium-based battery. Ceramic crucibles or compoÂnents are a key compoÂnent in manuÂfacÂturÂing this battery. Only a few mateÂriÂals have the propÂerty of therÂmal and chemÂiÂcal stabilÂity. E‑mobility and the assoÂciÂated battery techÂnolÂogy are a major aspect of today’s world. The producÂtion of elecÂtric cars is steadily increasÂing. Complex compoÂnents for the battery, engine control or heatÂing are now made of ceramic. Based on its many years’ experÂtise, GTS is helpÂing to realise new projects.
